St Munchin’s Church sits in a prominent position on Clancy Strand overlooking the Shannon River. The Church is in a very historic part of the City being beside Thomond Bridge and the Treaty stone and with King John’s Castle situated directly opposite the church, across the river.  The church is therefore a well-known landmark in Limerick City and is prominent in the views of this part of the City. St Munchin’s Church was designed by Joseph P.O’Malley Architect (1867 to 1933.).  The construction of St Munchin’s Church was started in 1921 and the Church opened on Easter Day 1922.  The Church is constructed in Limestone with a cruciform plan, a smooth limestone ashlar plinth base with rock-faced limestone walls and a prominent stepped eaves course.
