Kevin Jackson was been the design lead and contract project manager for this project which he carried out in conjunction with for O'Connell Mahon Architects in association with Isherwood and Ellis Architects. The project comprised a new Radiotherapy Unit and the expansion and remodelling of the Chemotherapy Department at Altnagelvin Hospital. It includes four Linear Accelerators, MRI, CT, and X-Ray, CT Simulators, Consulting and Waiting areas, 28 single bed Ward, Treatment and Planning facilities and Administration suite.

The design intention was to develop a design which allays the fears of radiotherapy and chemotherapy patients with the integration of nature at each stage of the patient treatment pathway. The ground floor plan defines the key activities within a series of distinct pavilions located in a garden which is both inside and outside and which brings nature close to patients as they receive treatment.

Brick articulated in Flemish bond with expressed headers is chosen for the external facades for the scale and texture it brings and to provide a familiar and reassuring aspect for patients.
