National Plan for Radiation Oncology

The project was the subject of design and build competition for two number 4 bunker Radiation Oncology centers at Beaumont and James Hospitals in Dublin. The winning design comprises a three storey facility, containing four linear accelerator treatment rooms, a brachytherapy, MRI, CT, patient consultation/ examination rooms and a range of supporting clinical and non clinical areas, where the highest level of cancer care and treatment of patients will be provided.

The design delivers optimised layouts and detail designs to facilitate easy interchangability of staff, forming the prototypical basis for the roll out of the 7 centers identified in the NPRO strategy.

  • Both St James and Beaumont hospital may be extended (from 4 - 8 and 4 - 10 bunkers respectively) with minimal disruption to the existing hospitals.
  • The design of the bunkers will accommodate the equipment of any of the four key equipment suppliers identified by the client, to ensure future flexibility in fit-out.

The project achieved Substantial completion in late 2010.
